Q. What is the difference between, Speed Skates, & Roller Blades?
A. Regular Roller Skates are the tradional high top recreational skate made popular in the A. Quad Skates or “Speed” Skates are a lower cut boot built for speed and comfort. They are a breakaway form the traditional 70s style disco skates. They have a wider wheel base and they’re trucks/plates are much lighter than high top skates. Because they are equipped with a better, faster bearing skaters are able to enjoy skating at a faster speed. While these quad skates are most often called “speed skates” the amount of speed is the responsibility of the skater.
A. Roller Blades / Inline Skates - Roller blades function much like conventional roller skates. Roller blades have a rigid plastic boot, similar to the boot used in snow skiing. They have between three and five polyurethane (plastic) wheels that are arranged in a line and secured to the bottom of the boot. Because the wheels are narrow, roller blades can reach much higher speeds than roller skates. The brake pad on roller blades is on the heel of either one or both of the skates, while the brake pad on roller skates is on the toe.
